How to Distinguish
Signage and storefronts use the Georgian script (ქართული ენა). Black-and-white blocks are also often seen along the roadside.

As one of the birthplaces of wine, Georgian homes often have a pergola (a metal or wooden trellis for training grapevines) in front of the house.
* Out of consideration for freedom of panorama in Georgia, this photo uses a pergola from a country other than Georgia. Please check Street View for the real thing.
Narrow down state/region
- The closer to the border, the more steep mountains there are, but the south also has plenty of gentle undulations
- Mountains capped with cumulonimbus clouds and concrete roads are signs of the north
- The west is mostly June–September, while the center (Gori (გორი)) to the east is mostly August–November?
The Caucasus Mountains stretch along the border with Russia, and the closer you get, the steeper the mountains become. Whether or not there is a steep mountain range when you look north helps narrow down the region considerably.
The peaks are so high that they are often shrouded in clouds. Along the Greater Caucasus, air is pushed upward and forms lines of cumulonimbus clouds that bring rain. As a result, the closer you get to the range, the more rainfall and greenery you can expect to see. In addition, at high elevations asphalt paving is difficult (water that seeps into gaps in the asphalt freezes, expands, and cracks it), so concrete-paved roads become more common.
Narrow down city/town
- The village of Ushguli has a historic townscape dotted with defensive-tower-like buildings
- Batumi stands out for its large-scale buildings
- Chiatura is a town surrounded by cliffs, criss-crossed by a web-like network of ropeways (cable cars)
- Stepantsminda is near the end of the Georgian Military Road, so large trucks are common
It is one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe. It has buildings that look like defensive towers (? — no clear confirmation that all of them are). Nearby villages also have similar buildings.
There are new casinos, leisure facilities, and hotels. As a hub for tourism and a trade transit point, it has received large-scale investment, giving it a different atmosphere from other cities.

A town hemmed in by steep cliffs. To get around the rugged terrain, a spider-web-like network of ropeways (cable cars) was strung across the town in the 1950s during the Soviet era (under Stalin).
