Private taxis are typically painted blue and white (besides tuk-tuks there are standard cars), and license plates are generally red. Because Ethiopia levies high import duties to attract overseas businesses, it is considered difficult for individuals to buy vehicles manufactured abroad.
Four-wheeled vehicles are often Japanese brands, while many two-wheelers are made by Indian companies. The Isuzu vehicles shown in the photos are assembled locally in Ethiopia.
