Overview

Homes roofed with Sekishū tiles appear across the eastern–central San’in coast; the roofs look distinctly red.

Sekishū tiles are clay tiles produced in the Iwami area of Shimane Prefecture. They are widely used in the San’in region and are known for their reddish-brown colour—especially common from eastern to central Shimane.
