The answer is the volcanic Canary Islands. Volcanic destinations such as Hawaii, the Pitcairn Islands, the Canaries, or Mount Etna in Sicily often have very dark soil. Coastal areas, by contrast, can look much lighter. Soil color is a useful clue for narrowing down the region.
